  • Did you know that most of Whidbey Island is at high risk for wildfire? "Firewise" plants are fire resistant and can reduce the landowners' risk of losing their home to wildfire. Firewise plants have low resin content, supple leaves, water-like sap, thicker bark and high moisture content.  Many northwest native plants are considered "firewise"--check our list in October for plants specifically identified as such. For more information on our Firewise program contact the district at 678-4708.
