The native bunchgrass Roemer's fescue (Festuca roemeri), traditionally dominated the gravel outwash prairies of NW Washington, as well as the grasslands of British Columbia and the Willamette Valley of Oregon. In establishing a prairie dominated by native plants, Roemer's fescue is the key species used in ecological restoration, revegetation and rehabilitation in the region. It is a deep-rooted perennial providing excellent erosion control, and can withstand various stresses including drought.
These handsome plants come from the native prairie at the Pacific Rim Institute and are highly adapted to our local environment. Water if needed in their first summer after which they are extremely low maintenance.
