Join us in creating Better Ground!

Plant Sale Volunteers

The plant sale depends on wonderful volunteers who dedicate their time in late February to bundling, packing, and distributing over 300 orders to the Whidbey Island community.

If you're interested in volunteering, please visit our sign up form for shift times and descriptions.

We are planning our pick-up strategy based on current COVID19 restrictions, including a limit on the number of people who may organize together (currently 10), and that means we will have more shifts of small groups of volunteers at a time. We'll still a lot orders to pack, and will need as many volunteers as we can get!

We will be taking every precaution to keep all our volunteers safe. We are staying below 25% capacity of the Greenbank Barn, which is an open area that we can keep well ventilated. We'll provide PPE for those who need it, and stagger shifts so we can disinfect in between volunteer groups. We are also staggering our pick-up times in an attempt to reduce the number of customers picking up their orders at one time, and customers will be asked to remain in their vehicles and not enter the Barn.

Please review these guidelines before volunteering, including mask wearing, sanitizing, and staying home if you don't feel well.

Interested in Volunteering with Us?

WICD holds two events each year for which we depend on our amazing volunteers.
  • Our bare root Native Plant Sale, in late February, is an event where we organize and package native plant orders, then distribute them on pick-up day. We need 60 volunteers to make this event a success.
  • Orca Recovery Day is a region-wide day of action held in October, in which we hold work parties and educational events across the island to bring attention to the struggles of our Southern Resident Orcas. Everyone is welcome to participate in this fun day!
For more volunteer opportunities and ideas, check out our Community Involvement page.
