Become an associate Supervisor
Each conservation district in Washington is governed by a board of five members, called supervisors. Three are elected locally by the public, and two are appointed by the Conservation Commission. At least two of the elected and one of the appointed supervisors must be local landowners or operators of a farm. The term of office is three years. Supervisors are non-partisan and serve without compensation — they are volunteers. The board meets once a month to discuss district business, oversee district finances and provide guidance on district activities.
There is a tremendous diversity of land users and residents in the WICD with varied interests, objectives and needs. It is impractical for a five-member Board of Supervisors to adequately represent such diversity and thoroughly understand the variety of needs and concerns that exist. Therefore, the Board relies on Associate Supervisors to inform their decisions.
